Idaho Opening Day Deer Hunt 2017

Here are two mule deer taken on opening day in Idaho’s general season. It took right at 3 hours to hike from the truck to the top of the mountain we wanted to hunt. Mine was killed around 10am. We spotted my friend Chess’s buck about 900 yards away bedded in the brush near some really cliffy stuff. We got to within 200 yards and Chess got him in his bed with his .243 about an hour before day. His buck was enormous and very old and definitely on the decline. The hike back was like fun but different 🙂 We each had an entire boned out mature buck on our backs. But it was worth it in the end!
