Here is a picture of a Weimaraner we are training. I have had him for three weeks and he is doing very well. At first he was not pointing or indicating that he had hit a bird’s scent cone. After some work with homing pigeons and a bird launcher he is pointing his birds with style.
We had a great time at the hunt tests in Mayfield, Idaho this year. It was a good place to meet other bird dog hunters and trainers. It is always to good to hear about training methods that are working for other trainers while sharing what works for us.
Stella, Kenya’s sister, did very well. She was almost nine months old at the test and performed exceptionally. She passed four of her four junior hunt tests and earned an AKC JH title. In four runs, she had 8 finds and held through the shot on all 8 birds.
We also had a GSP named Dottie who was trained at Cove Mountain Kennels come along with her owner. She also went four for four and earned a JH title. She was a bird finding machine!
Pictured is John with Dottie on point during a test and Nick with Karamojo’s Dragon Tattoo JH (Stella).
We are excited that all four of Kenya’s puppies have went to homes where they will be cared for and hunted hard. We anticipate hearing about how these pups do and we hope to possibly get one or two back for training in the summer. Pictured are two buddies, Jon and Eric, from Las Vegas that took two of the pups. The pups will be hunted together a lot. Their names made me laugh: Goose and Maverick.
We hope to have another Brittany litter within a year. We will try Kenya again after her next cycle as not to put too much strain on her body. Stella, Kenya’s younger sister, will probably be bred on her second cycle which should be sometime within the next year. She has proven herself to be a very trainable dog with some fantastic qualities, much like her sister. Keep up with the blog for more news!
All of the Brittany pups from the Kenya/Clown cross have been sold except for one. The puppies will be seven weeks old and ready to be picked up Friday, March 22, 2013.
All of the pups were males. The cost is $500 for the last pup. Don’t miss your chance to own a puppy from stellar lines and in perfect timing for this fall’s bird season!

Kenya Karamojo Bell JH, the dam, and Karamojo’s Dragon Tattoo (Stella), the dam’s sister, will be running in the AKC hunt tests in Mayfield, ID this weekend. Kenya will be going for a Senior Hunter title and Stella will be trying for a Junior Hunter title. Additionally, Max, a great English Pointer owned by Chris will be running to add a Senior title to his Junior title.
This May 10th and 11th in Beaver, Utah we are hosting Dave Walker for a two day pointing dog training seminar. Dave Walker is one of the most successful pro trainers and field trial competitors still alive today. Dave has an uncanny ability to read a dog’s body language and bring out the best in them. If you want to learn about pointing dogs and better your skills as a trainer and your dogs abilities, don’t miss this weekend.
Join us in Beaver for the 2013 Utah Bird Dog Training Camp. Dave Walker will provide us with two solid days of bird dog instruction and hands on classes. Dave Walker uses live birds in his training and prefers to work with you (the handler) and your dog as a team. He will save you a lot of time and trouble and can even help your through those training trouble spots. He will be going over steady to wind and shot, force fetching, backing and honoring, and introduction to birds and gun. This seminar is for all ages and skill levels, puppies to finished dogs. Don’t miss out on this chance.

Kenya dropped her litter on her expected due date, Friday, February 1. Everything went well and she and the pups are doing well. She dropped four beautiful male pups. We are very excited. Pups will be ready to go home around the 21st of March. They are not all spoken for, so if you are interested in talking Brittanys, please call Nick at 314-954-5424, or email at nickmuckerman@hotmail.com.
We had a nice chukar hunt the other day. Chris ran his English Pointer, Max, who did phenomenal. Kenya was out of commission with a belly full of puppies so I had an opportunity to run her little sister, Stella, on her first chukar hunt.
We got into a covey of about 70 birds pretty early on and spent the day chasing them around, point after point, knocking them down. The dogs were a little frustrated with our shooting at first, but we ended up with 14 chukars between us when we headed back to the truck.
It is official: Kenya is pregnant! We are very excited to officially announce an upcoming litter of American Brittanys. These pups should be top-notch hunting or field trial prospects. Please take a minute and read the post below this one regarding details of this cross.
Kenya has taken the shape of a tube and has shown other signs of pregnancy. On Friday we did an ultrasound to confirm. We were able to see a few little puppies wiggling around. I pulled out a chukar wing and put it against Kenya’s side and they all pointed to it…..just kidding. But, we are very excited and are currently taking deposits.
Puppies should be on the ground the first weekend of February and ready to go mid to late March. This is perfect timing as these pups will be ready for full-on training mid-summer and ready to find some birds come September. If you would like to talk Brittanys, contact Nick at 314-954-5424.
KenyaThe ClownIt is with excitement that we announce a possible upcoming litter of AKC American Brittanys. After an extensive search of stud dogs, I chose a sire from the legendary trainer and field trialer, Dave Walker. His go-to hunting dog stud, The Clown, was bred to my three-year-old Brittany, Kenya Karamojo Bell JH, on the first and third of December. We tried this same cross nine months ago, but were unable to get a lock. This time, we are very hopeful.
I bred for hunting/companion dogs primarily, but they definitely have the blood to be field trial contenders. Kenya has proved herself in the hunting field, and in AKC hunt tests. She went four for four passes on her JH title in March 2011 and was the only one of twelve dogs to so that weekend. The judges were impressed with her ability to work the field and find birds. She is not a big-running-find-her-in-the-next-county dog, but she covers ground quickly and thoroughly. I also bred for trainability, because as a dog trainer, this is very important to me. She was fully broke, steady-to-shot at eight months. Over 100 wild birds were shot over her during her rookie season. She is an extremely efficient dog and can hunt hard all day, day after day, and has hearty feet. She is a bird finding machine with an intense point. She has a friendly disposition and is everybody’s friend. Kenya comes out of the famous NSTRA dog, Nolan’s Last Bullet and also NFC DC AFC Tequila’s Joker.
The sire, The Clown, has many of the traits Kenya has. He is a friendly dog and a hunting machine. I knew I couldn’t go wrong with Dave Walker’s top hunting stud. The Clown is a son of FC AFC Chubasco II. His pedigree is full of AKC Field Champions and Dual Champions including NFC Beans Blaze.
Both of the dogs are certified OFA GOOD for hip dysplasia.
Deposits are being taken for puppies to be born the first of February and ready to go toward the end of March. It takes a lot of time and effort to produce a dam and find a sire that will truly better the breed. It is important to me that they go to good homes where they will be taken care of and appreciated. If you would like to talk Brittanys, contact Nick at 314-954-5424. We will let you know any news on Kenya’s hopeful pregnancy.
