We are excited to announce two projected American Brittany litters. Both litters are due around August 12, 2015 and will be ready to go to new homes 7-8 weeks after that. Both pairs of dogs had multiple ties this past week and we are hoping for two litters.

SISSY/DUKE – Duke is a son out of one of my Kenya/Clown litters (scroll down to see more info) and I had the privilege of training him last summer. He is very much like his mother, Kenya. He covers ground fast, points hard and intense and is a pleasure to be around. Sissy is a hard hunting female and has a nice build. She is everybody’s friend. We are excited about these pups. Both dogs have quality pedigrees.

BAILEY/BOOMER – Boomer is another son from my Kenya/Clown cross that I trained last summer. He was, without a doubt, THE most trainable dog I have ever worked with. Within a week in his two-month program Boomer was pointing birds, holding them through the shot, and retrieving. He literally did not break the first month. I wanted him to have a respect for birds, so I put him in a situation where I winged a pigeon and dropped it at his feet. Eventually, he broke, was nicked with the e-collar, and didn’t break another time in his training. It was unreal. Bailey is one of the nicest dogs to be around. She is calm when not hunting and very gentle. In the field, she hunts hard, finds her birds, and points them well. Both dogs have quality pedigrees.

Rocky and Rambo are two Brits that came from the other side of the state. They just went home and did very well. Rocky is out of a former Kenya/Clown cross…very good breeding.

Chris sent me this picture this morning and I got the full story later. Sam killed this beautiful tom this morning. He has had a heck of a year. Two turkeys, a deer and a mountain lion. This tom was killed in an area that holds what are considered Rio Grande/Merriam’s hybrid turkeys. Get your kids out and share some success. They are the future of the sport! Congrats Sam!!!

3 tips for taking kids out hunting:
1. Make it fun…FOR THEM! This may mean a stop for a treat on the way back. It may mean walking slower and not covering the ground you’d like. In the end, if a kid enjoys the overall experience of hunting with mom or dad, regardless of success, they will be more willing to go again.
2. Make it fun… fun may mean success, but it may not. Success helps. There is no way around it. It is good to start with hunting game that you have a high likelihood of killing. Teach them the value of persistence later…first try to get some success.
3. Make it fun… kids will miss…even yours. Look for the good in the hunt and don’t let your kid dwell on a miss. They happen to everyone and hunting is still fun despite them.

Pictured is Trigger, a German Shorthair Pointer from Jackson, Wyoming, that has been in our training program for two weeks. Yesterday we got some mid-April snow (where was all this snow during lion season!). We train in all conditions. We do this because we hunt in all conditions. We purposely keep a few white homing pigeons in our training flocks just for days like this because they are easier to hide in the snow.

We have a few spots available for this summer and early fall for training. We generally take dogs for 2-3 months but can work with you to suit your needs and what you are looking for in your hunting partner. We like to take dogs after they are 7 or 8 months old because we have found that dogs are mentally mature enough to handle the training. In some cases we have taken dogs when they are 6 months and they have worked out well. We train for hunting, but we also train for general obedience. We have two to three planned breedings coming up in the next month or two. Our puppies sell very fast as they have a reputations for being excellent hunting/companion dogs. Stay tuned for upcoming exciting news. The females recently passed when their cycles usually happen. We are on the edge of our seats!

We are excited to announce not one, but two American Brittany litters coming soon. Our field proven, AKC titled and OFA GOOD female, Kenya Karamojo Bell JH was bred to Twenty Grand Pete this past week and we are expecting a litter on the ground mid-April. The dam, Kenya, is a proven hunter and has thrown some fantastic puppies in the past. Cove Mountain Kennels has had the privilege of training with 5 of these pups from her previous litters and they were all great dogs and absolutely the most trainable dogs our kennel has seen. We can provide references. Kenya’s grandpa is Nolan’s Last Bullet, arguably the best Brittany ever. Her mother’s side is covered with blood out of NFC DC AFC Tequila’s Joker and other field champions. She is a pistol in the field and a pleasure to be around at home. She is stylish, fast and covers ground well. She hunts medium range, but will range in for grouse in the thick stuff or range further for sharptails on the prairie.

Also, Karamojo’s Dragon Tattoo JH (Stella, Kenya’s full sister) was also bred two weeks ago to Pete. This is rare for us to have two litters so close as we are only breeding two dams and their cycles are 6 months and 9 months. Stella is a pleasure to hunt with and a pleasure to be around. She was extremely trainable and is a great bird finder with a lot of style.

The sire of this litters, Pete, has the most stacked pedigree I have ever seen. This, combined with his excellent hunting skills, exceptional retrieving skills, and calm, even temperament, are why we chose him as a sire. Pete is a son of DC AFC Grand Junction Jake out of Illinois. In Pete’s five generation pedigree, there are 35 AKC field champions (FC). 10 of those are dual champions (DC). 9 of those are national field champion (NFC or AFC). There are also 8 show champions (CH) and a few AKC hunt test titled dogs as well. That is some serious blood for hunting and confirmation.

We breed for hunting/pointing, trainability and companionship. These dogs make hunting companion dogs or field trial prospects. We prefer hunting or field trialing homes, but sometimes make exceptions to individuals and families with an active and outdoorsy lifestyle.

Pups would be ready to go seven-eight weeks after that, sometime around mid-early June. We are located near Pocatello, Idaho. Scroll down for pics of other litters and the dam.
